XCUS-150 - Finding Your Voice: Mastering Your Professional Persona
Course Description
Course Description:
Theater draws deeply from the resources of the imagination and speaks powerfully about the mystery of human experience. The demands of the theater, the skills and tools of acting, are suited to helping individuals develop the skills of clear self-expression that enable one’s true voice to be heard whether in our personal or professional lives.
This course will enable participants to learn about theater and the energy it derives from the imagination and our own human experience. We will learn by reading, and mostly we will learn by doing. Using our own stories and histories as the experience, participants will be asked to find their professional voice and share it with an audience. Through the skills of play writing, acting, understanding audience and motive, and finally performance, participants will turn their own stories into powerful expressions of self and be able to modify that story appropriately for each audience. Previous acting or other theater experience is not required.
It is important to note that theater is the tool for developing clear communication skills and being able to speak out with confidence, self-awareness, and compassion for oneself and others; a key element of finding and crafting the professional persona.
