XEFL-300 - Integrated Communication Skills I
Course Description
This nine-week course focuses on improving students’ overall communicative ability in common language tasks such as describing people, asking questions, giving instructions, and making requests and small talk. Students will work with partners and in groups to write dialogues, complete surveys, present projects, and more.
This course combines speaking, listening, reading, and writing practice. Students will learn vocabulary related to family, daily activities, weather, locations, advertisements, travel, and clothing. They will also practice their pronunciation. Writing assignments include short, informal messages, and there is a review of simple present, future, and past tenses. Course content is presented in themes related to daily life, family, friends, shopping, and travel.
Before taking this course, students should be able to speak and write basic sentences in the present tense and to be able to understand some information in basic spoken and written texts.
Course Prerequisites
Important Placement Test Information: All new and returning students must take a placement test to participate in the program. The test’s time, date and location are included in a payment confirmation email you will receive after enrolling.
