Course Description

Audio and Video Development is an intensive hands-on introductory course in media production. Participants learn audio and video production skills such as recording and editing. The course uses discussions and lab exercises to build a foundation for continued media production work. Discussions address story boarding, shot composition, camera settings, audio recording techniques, documentary and shooting styles, and narrative construction. The production lab emphasizes skill development with camera settings, recording choices, microphones, and Final Cut Pro. Using professional cameras and equipment, participants will produce a two-minute video, which they edit, remix, and develop throughout the week to meet high quality production standards. This is a five-day course that meets from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. with a one-hour lunch break.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of the course, successful students will be able to:

  • Apply the fundamentals of story boarding, shot composition, camera settings, audio recording techniques, documentary and shooting styles, and narrative construction into a shoot.
  • Develop skill with camera settings, recording choices, microphones, and Final Cut Pro. 
  • Produce a high-quality production two-minute digital short film.

Course Prerequisites

No previous media production experience is required.
