XCPD-895 - Analyzing Competitive Strategy in a Global Context
Course Description
To be competitive in a global market, managers must constantly utilize and implement the most effective strategy for their organization. This course will provide participants the frameworks and methods for analyzing an organization’s capabilities and ecosystem as a means to develop an effective and grounded strategy. Building from the fundamental definition of strategy, participants will conduct industry lifecycle analysis across industry types and will assess the structure and attractiveness of different industries (including 5-forces analysis, segmentation, competitive analysis, and others). Additionally, participants will gain the tools necessary to forecast industry direction, conduct value chain analysis, and assess vertical integration strategies, including the search for profit pools and managing channels.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, successful students will be able to:
- Define what strategy means: how to go global and what it takes to do so
- Articulate the strengths and weaknesses of an organization and identify capabilities and resources
- Analyze key strategic decisions such as build vs. buy vs. partner decisions (i.e. capability development)
- Understand methods and means of creating a competitive advantage
