Course Description

This course will provide professionals who are interested in politics and current events a rare sneak peek inside the increasingly important role that digital organizing and communications plays in modern political and social campaigns. The class will be led by Blue State Digital, whose work for the 2008 and 2012 Obama for America campaigns combined innovative community building tactics and online tools and helped to revolutionize political organizing in the digital age.

Participants will learn how email, social media, digital fundraising, mobile technology, and big data are changing the way that political parties, issue organizations, and companies interact with voters, supporters, and customers. We'll discuss how an empowered public can take ownership of these technologies to amplify its voice in the political arena, and how nonprofits and issue organizations can use these technologies to find and motivate people who share their point of view.

Learnings from this class will be highly applicable for participants looking to more effectively engage online, in both their professional and personal lives.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Better understand the central role that digital organizing plays in modern political campaigns
