Course Description

This course seeks to provide participants with the knowledge and practice of writing various types of speeches for various types of audiences. Participants will first learn the basics of speech writing including the process, use of a spec sheet and development of an outline. Extensive amount of time will be spent on audience analysis and the power of selecting the right words to make the appropriate impact and using literary devices for effect. Additionally, topics related to the motivational cycle, parts of speeches, and use of metaphor will be covered. Participants will be asked not only to write speeches, but to listen to, dissect and analyze speeches given by significant political figures, and to give their own speeches in class.
