Course Description

The story of Galileo as told by historians and as portrayed by Bertolt Brecht is multidimensional, with the hero being seen variously as: a martyr  for the freedom of thought, the defender of freedom and science against an oppressive Church, a master of knavery and cunning, a heretic, a courtier. and the founder of contemporary physics. The Galileo Case itself is considered to be: the cause celebre of the conflict school of the science–religion relationship, a defining moment of the Scientific Revolution, and an example of tragic mutual comprehension which continues to be pertinent today. What might we learn from these many dimensions today?
