Course Description

The objective of this course is to introduce students to the world of finance and basic financial tools for decision making (for a small- and medium-size business). This course focuses on the functions of financial manager / business owner; and on the aspects of risk and return relationship. Particular emphasis is placed on Time Value of Money (TVM), including Future and Present Values concepts; and managing financial statements. Students will gain an understanding of types of businesses, financial statements, the Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) methodology (using TVM), types of financing, loan amortization schedules, and the Net Present Value method for projects evaluation. Also students will review cash management process.

 

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the successful student should able to:

 · Understand the basics of finance and main tools for decision-making.

 · Understand the basics of risk and return relationship.

 · Compute Future and Present Values, including FV and PV of annuities.

 · Compute Discounted Cash Flows (using Time Value of Money).

 · Understand and manage financial statements.

 · Compute the Net Present Value (for project analysis).
