A Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) Certificate is an entry-level credential for teaching English as a foreign or second language. It’s appropriate for anyone with an interest in teaching EFL/ESL, regardless of whether or not you have prior teaching experience. Georgetown’s TEFL Certificate program prepares you for all aspects of teaching and helps you learn the best methodologies for teaching English. 

Georgetown’s TEFL Certificate program offers quality instruction with a schedule that’s flexible enough to meet the needs of all students while providing real classroom experience.

Additional Information

1. Admissions:

Admission is given on a space available basis. Admission cannot be guaranteed until all documents and fees are received.

2. Program Cancellation:

If insufficient enrollment requires the program to be cancelled, ELC Special Programs will notify you via email. In this case, your full tuition will be refunded.

3. Withdrawals:

The application fee is non-refundable. If you would like to withdraw from the program, please email elttprograms@georgetown.edu to request a refund of your tuition according to the following schedule:

-Withdrawals 21 or more days prior to the start of the program: 100% refund of tuition for online and practicum courses 

-Withdrawals 20 days or fewer before the start of the program: 100% refund of practicum course tuition only 

-Withdrawals on or after the first day of the program: No refund

4. Practicum:

- Schedule: Students should make travel arrangements as soon as possible to accommodate the practicum assignment. Trainees must attend all five days of the practicum. Please note that during the Fall semester, Georgetown only offers TEFL-510 as a practicum option. TEFL-515 is only offered during the Spring.

- Student Health: All students attending classes must submit the Immunization and Tuberculosis Certificate prior to arriving on campus. Please visit the Student Health Center website (http://studenthealth.georgetown.edu/medical-care/forms/) to download the required form.
