Course Description

This course is designed for students who are either currently working professionals or for those who are seeking work. It follows a Case-Based Learning curriculum. This means that students will read several stories throughout the semester about business scenarios. They will work in groups to analyze the cases, discuss issues, and make decisions. Students will also get an opportunity to take on the role of someone involved in the case, which gives them a chance to reflect on the case’s impact on key players and stakeholders.

A Case-Based Learning curriculum gives students an opportunity to refine their communication skills in the context of a realistic business scenario. In this course, students will work on giving opinions, making suggestions, taking notes, summarizing readings, disagreeing, interrupting, and recognizing tone and purpose. In addition, students will write a memo. This course ends with individual presentations during which students present a problem and discuss alternatives.

Before taking this course, students should be able to speak in paragraphs about a variety of topics including opinions. They should be able to participate in group conversations with some ease. They should also be able to write organized paragraphs. Students should also be able to understand clearly structured spoken and written texts.
