Course Description

While we might all want to know the “right way forward,” in the real world, every organization is different, and what works in one situation, may not work in another for many reasons. This course will give students the skills and practice to think strategically and systemically about which activities and initiatives may best bring about real change in an organization. The session will explore several types of organizational interventions for better relationships, enhanced culture and improved performance, but most importantly it will help leaders and consultants make wise collaborative decisions in partnership with clients, peers, and other stakeholders. The session will explore interventions at the individual, group and systems levels.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, successful students will be able to:

  • Define “intervention” in the context of OD and organizational systems
  • Explain the relationship between theories of change and interventions
  • Leverage an understanding of levels of system to select/design interventions
  • Collaboratively design interventions and build capacity for agility in those designs
  • Describe different types of interventions and their respective advantages
