Course Description

Today’s computing power and big data are driving the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) at unprecedented speed, igniting a new historical moment between science, ethics, and politics. Through a combination of lectures, guest speakers, discussion sections, and project building, you will explore not only the science of AI from its beginnings to its future, but also take a deep dive into the ethics of AI-enabled automation and the global governance frameworks taking shape to regulate its use.

How You'll Benefit

Define AI from a socio-technical perspective. Summarize current scientific innovations and limitations across industry and government use cases. Identify ethical considerations with the use of AI (e.g., bias, transparency, explainability, privacy, security, and accountability). Analyze Western and non-Western ethical frameworks for AI design and development. Compare and contrast AI governance frameworks evolving across the world. Propose design and policy solutions in a focus area of interest within the AI domain.

Program Format & Subject Areas

As a student in the Artificial Intelligence Academy, you’ll spend your day immersed in a blend of lectures, activities, and group discussions. Throughout the week, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the following subject areas:

The Science of AI: its past, present, and future
