Course Description

As a consequence of technological change and innovation, every market, industry, and manager faces disruption. Fifteen years ago, the internet was a fledgling technology Ten years ago, Google only just emerged as key player in search. Five years ago, Apple released the iPhone.

How do managers cope, especially when pressured to implement new ideas, products, and systems under time and financial constraints? The answer is to cultivate a culture that embraces creativity, flexibility, and adaptability while at the same time remains focused on a unified mission and vision.

This course is designed to help managers acquire the skills that are necessary to inspire productive creativity among others while developing techniques to execute a vision. Participants will learn successful methods associated with design thinking, project visioning, and risk management. Group discussions will reinforce the use of case studies to explore why some ideas fail while others push an organization to the next level of success.

 

Course Objectives

 

Upon completion of this course, successful students will be able to:

  • Plan and direct inclusive brainstorming sessions
  • Examine the role of culture in innovation
  • Critique an existing strategy model
  • Outline significant elements of a project implementation plan
  • Discuss the habits of mind associated with design innovation and strategy
