Course Description

Authentic Leadership: Understanding Your Behavioral Style, Motivating Values, Inherent Abilities and Passions

The self-aware leader is a more effective leader and manager. Using assessment data, this course will help you not only understand who you are at the deepest level but also your motivation, leadership style, and natural talents and abilities. In addition, you will learn how to relate more effectively to others, communicate more powerfully, and motivate others.

As a data-driven leadership development course, you must complete two state-of-the-art online assessments:

  1. The Highlands Ability Battery
  2. Behaviors and Motivators Report

These powerful assessments will give you a more objective view of your natural leadership style, reveal sources of stress, provide valuable communication tips for improving effective communication, and enhancing overall performance and teamwork. See below for more about the assessments.

Using data from the assessments, you will receive expert interpretation and analysis as well as actionable advice to gain greater self-awareness and become a more effective leader in both work and life situations. You will also complete assignments designed to help you identify your unique passions and values as a means to achieve greater fulfillment in work. You will design and begin a values-based project during the course to more closely align you values and work.

Course Outline

Students are required to complete two state-of-the-art online assessments:

  1. The Highlands Ability Battery : The Highlands Ability Battery reveals your hard-wired brain abilities, such as spatial awareness, problem-solving style, whether you are a tactical planner or strategic planner, your rate of idea generation, language ability, whether you are a generalist or a specialist by nature, musical ability, and much more. Although our brains have a certain amount of plasticity and we can create new neural pathways, it takes about 10,000 hours to create one. From the age of 14 our brain has already settled into specific patterns and these can be identified by taking the Highlands Ability Battery. The Highlands Ability Battery is an industry standard used to develop leaders, enhance job performance and point out possible new career paths. It is an objective report and provides a wealth of information about your natural talents. A critical assessment for any leader or senior executive.

  2. Behaviors and Motivators Report: The Behaviors and Motivators Report reveals our natural behavioral style and our underlying motivating values. The best leaders and coaches know themselves and understand the motivations and styles of others in order to bring out the best in their teams and clients.

Each student will receive passwords and instructions for the two online assessments as well as an online workbook.
